Over the past couple of days

Happy Thursday, naturalista’s! How has your week been so far? Good I hope. Its almost the weekend, so hang in there. One more day. 🙂

This is going to be kind of a random post. Just wanted to share a few photos with you ladies of my past couple of days.

So, anyone who knows me or follows me knows I am the biggest advocate for two things:

1. Jesus

2. Natural Hair

3. Inspiration Quotes

Im a pretty simple chick. 😉 Last week I went to a ball game in Downtown Detroit, in which I came across the most beautiful graffiti.

I was so inspired. Had to take a picture. What do you think?

Then the other day, I got a Starbucks and you know how Oprah Winfrey is doing a campaign now with the chai tea? (What doesn’t she do? Or own? I swear lol) and it just really inspired me.

“Live from the heart of yourself. Learn to be whole, not perfect.” – Oprah Winfrey. I have to say, this quote really got me through this week. I have been super stressed out lately, just with my job, finances, relationships and the fact that I always strive for perfection has been hindering me in those three areas. Reading this quote and allowing it to resonate was really impactful. Its just awesome how God works sometimes, even through something as simple as this.

Thanks, guys! This was kind of a random post. Share your comments and thoughts below! What are some of your favorite quotes, scriptures? What has been getting you through your week?

Always remember: You are Fearfully, Wonderfully and “Beautifully mane.”

Got Jesus?

Got Jesus?

Represented my daddy in Downtown Detroit this past week for a ball game. Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals. Unfortunately we lost lol but hey! A christian still gotta rep right? 😉

Happy Monday, naturalista’s!

My Monday started off with waking up this morning and realizing how defined my curls were after rocking a wash and go yesterday. I looked and the mirror and my jaw dropped lol like, whoa! So awesome.

My Curl Confessions!

natural hair tag

Happy Friday, Naturalista’s!

So I have been tagged by Portia S. Cole of HuneyBFlyy for “Curl Confessions”, 10 secrets about myself and my natural hair journey that I am going to share. You ready? Shoot, I don’t even think I am. Some things may break the secret “natural hair” code. Just don’t tell anyone 😉

1. I still use heat on my hair.

My personal definition of natural (as stated in many of my previous posts such as “Oh what a tangled web we weave” and my “first youtube video”) is when you simply stop relaxing. You don’t necessarily HAVE TO big chop, or have to stop using a flat iron on your hair. Natural to me simply means when you choose to either stop relaxing your hair and coloring your hair (using anything with chemical processing in efforts to alter your hair texture and pattern) or you never have. Women come up to me all the time and go “Man, your natural hair is so pretty! I wish I could go natural.” I literally always ask “Well, do you have a perm?”

Being natural means different things to many different women, but at the end of the day it is healthy hair. Now do I suggest always heat training your hair? No mam’. I haven’t used heat on my hair in months. But you never want to be a prisoner of your hair. Switch it up, have fun. Its your hair, after all.

2. I barely watch YouTube videos on hair tutorials.

Currently, of course. Now, I used to. My favorites are Taren Guy, Yolanda Renee, Naptural85 and a couple others. But I realized that after watching so many videos, I was subconsciously striving to get my hair to look like theirs. AND GUESS WHAT? That ain’t never gonna happen. My hair is not their hair, and vice versa. Just gotta embrace it.

3. I used to wet my hair everyday my first week natural.

Like, just wet it. No shampoo, cowash, conditioner, nothing. Just wet it. Yeah, I was a struggle bus back then.

Hey, don’t talk about me. I thought that is what people did! LOL. After watching many YouTube videos, I suddenly came to the realization that people did more then wet their hair, Lizz. And thus, my journey began.

4. Lately I have been shampooing my hair at least one a week.

This is something new I have been doing lately due to product buildup. No, I do not highly recommend this. On the plus side, I have been using the Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle shampoo which is sulfate free, and works like a charm.

5.  The other day I forgot to follow up with a deep conditioning treatment after my protein treatment.

6. Coconut Oil is not my favorite sealant to use.

Okay, now ALOT of people swear by coconut oil. And I used to. It is mentioned in almost everyone single one of my posts. It has not been until recently that I have been using olive oil more, which works better for me. Went through alot of trial and error. Coconut oil is GREAT on my multi-textured hair when pre-pooing maybe once a month. Thats what your natural hair journey is all about, though. Gotta find what works best for you. Always.

Even in the summer. I swear, its like my life. Its my favorite thing to do. Especially if you have a busy day ahead of you!

Check out my post on how to properly deep condition your natural hair here.

8. When I do deep condition on the go, I prefer to use saran wrap as opposed to plastic caps.

Just works better for me that way. And its cheaper. 🙂

9. I use the LOC, LCO, and OCL methods interchangeably.

Depends on the state of my hair that day.

10. I never wash my hair in sections.

Too lazy for that nowadays.

Whew! That was fun. Hope I haven’t lost my Natural Hair card.

Okay now I tag these Naturalista’s listed below:

1. mochalovegoddess

2.  Project RayRay

3. xohaircrush
